National Internet2 Day

When: Thursday, March 18, 2004
Time: Starting at 8:15am - 4:30pm
Where: ECS 212

On Thursday March 18th, the Internet2 consortium will hold a National Internet2 day consisting of virtual presentations, demonstrations and performance events across disciplines showcasing the many uses of the Internet2 network. The full day broadcast will include live presentations from several Internet2 member sites throughout the nation utilizing the Internet2 network. The event agenda will feature:

  • Several overviews describing Internet2 research and applications.
  • Collaboration and teaching techniques using Internet2.
  • Diverse research and applications topics such as:
    • High Energy Physics, Software Engineering/Middleware,
    • Earthquake studies, and the Performing Arts.

The days events offer our researchers, educators and students insights into how the Internet2 consortium's dedicate academic high-speed network can support research innovation and next generation computer applications.

The School of Computer Science invites faculty and students to join the event broadcast in ECS 212 on March 18th starting at 8:15am through 4:30pm EST. To review the presentation agenda or to find out about the event please visit the the National Internet2 day website:

About Internet2 and FIU:
FIU established its connection to Internet2 in 1999 and is a member of the Internet2 consortium. FIU currently connects to Internet2 network, called Abilene, at 155MBs at the NAP of the Americas in downtown Miami.

Internet2 is a consortium being led by 206 universities working in partnership with industry and government to develop and deploy advanced network applications and technologies, accelerating the creation of tomorrow's Internet.
