The Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) is the professional organization for Computer Science. Any FIU student with an interest in software engineering, multimedia, networking, database management, computer programming, .NET, web development, computer graphics, animation, operating systems, game programming, or any other similar area is welcome to join our chapter.

FIU Programming Competition
2008-09-05 in ECS 141
Congratulations to Kartikay Gupta (1st place) and Jairo Quintana (2nd) place, winners of the Sept 2008 ACM programming competition. The competitiors, including Alejandro Hernandez, Eddie Ros, Stephen Medina, and Sebastian Gonzalez, worked for 5 hours on problems typically used in ACM Regional competitions. Judges were Mario Consuegra, Blanca Barney, and Kip Irvine. Thank you to Chak Leung for managing the PC^2 software. Be sure to attend our next competition!

Ultimate Software Recuriting Top FIU Students

| Greg Miller and his team from Ultimate Software did another one of their engaging demonstrations of test-driven programming. A very attentive crowd of 40 students watched as Rafael Santos and Mariana Sabogal (a recent FIU graduate) showed how to create a unit test with MBUnit and C#. Mariana also talked about "A Day in the Life of an Intern", relating to students her experiences at Ultimate Software. FIU students have been incredibly successful at Ultimate, securing 17 internships within the last two years. A large number of the FIU interns have also been offered permanent full-time positions. Greg Miller told the audience about the two national awards won recently by Ultimate Software: First Place among medium-sized companies, awarded by the Best Places to Work Institute; First Place for Best Development Team from the Stevie Awards organization. |

ACM/WICS Welcome-Back Party and General Meeting

The ACM and WICS (Women in Computer Science) clubs held a very successful welcome back party in the student clubs lounge, with food, drinks, and an overflowing crowd. Lydia Alaimo, president of WICS, and Eddie Guerra, president of ACM, jointly coordinated the general meeting.
